Burlington Studio of Electrolysis

Michelle O'Brien, LE, CPE

Michelle O'Brien purchased the Burlington Studio of Electrolysis in 2000. In the early 1990's under a previous owner, the business used to be located in downtown Burlington. That owner moved the business in the mid-90's to South Burlington. Two years after Michelle bought the business, she moved it to the current location in Essesx.

The Burlington Studio of Electrolysis utilizes the newest technology for permanent hair removal- the Apilus 27.12 MHz xCell Pure epilator. This is by far the most comfortable epilator a client can experience. The skin also heals faster with this machine. Come and experience the difference for yourself! The feedback from clients who have experienced various electrolysis epilators is the xCell Pure is the most comfortable experience.

The state of Vermont does require all electrologists to be licensed in order to practice but does not require one to become a Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE). However, Michelle believes in achieving the highest level of education and has therefore obtained the CPE credential because it is important for clients to know that their electrologist has achieved the highest level of education possible in the field of electrology.

Michelle has a great passion for her profession and takes pride in helping her clients improve their self-image and esteem. Michelle's devotion to clients, commitment to industry associations, achievements in obtaining and maintaining the CPE credential and passion for the profession make her an expert in the field of electrology!

Michelle welcomed Mariah Billado into her office in July 2021.  Mariah offers a variety of laser services as well as electrolysis. She works in the office on Mondays performing laser treatments and electrolysis. The rest of the week she uses her cosmetology skills down the road and across the street at Shear Diva. If you wish to schedule services with Mariah, you can reach her at 802-355-0098.

Michelle O'Brien - Electrologist

About Michelle O'Brien, LE, CPE

I graduated from the University of Vermont in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Unable to find full-time work in Vermont at that time as a therapist, I headed down a different career path after an electrologist friend, Sandy, suggested I purchase her business because she wished to retire. I decided to take the plunge and pursue a new career as an electrologist and have never looked back. I graduated from the Electrology Institute of New England in Tewksbury, MA, in December 1999, and in January 2000, I purchased the Burlington Studio of Electrolysis from Sandy Smith. I practiced both electrolysis and physical therapy for many years until 2008 when I decided to "retire" from physical therapy.

I have been a member of both the American Electrology Association (AEA) and the Association of Vermont Electrologists (AVE), the state affiliate of the AEA, since 2000.

In my 23+ years as an electrologist, I have served on both the state and national association's boards. I was the AEA's 3rd VP from 2008-2013. I was also the AEA's continuing education database manager from 2007-2016. I was the state association's (AVE) president from 2005-2011 and secretary from 2011-2015. I was the recipient of the Gold Probe Award in 2008. The Gold Probe Award is a prestigious award given to an electrologist exhibiting a strong dedication to the profession on both a state and national level through volunteerism.

I have 2 school-aged children. I am fortunate to be able to mold my schedule around the needs of my family. This is why my hours will vary each season, depending on their extracurricular activities.

Electrolysis Tip

HydrateHydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Drinking plenty of water helps unwanted hair slide right out.

Electrolysis Tip

Clean skin releases unwanted hair more easily. Remove your makeup before your appointment, Remove makeup prior to your electrolysis appointment.so the hair follicles are clean and accessible.

Electrolysis Tip

It's okay to shave between treatments, but never, ever tweeze!

Never tweeze between treatments.

Did you know?

The hair you see is not all the hair you have. Hair grows in cycles. That's why it takes more than one appointment to permanently clear an area.
